Our Story

About W. L. Bonner College

W. L. Bonner College was founded on vision, faith, and a commitment to preparing men and women for Christian leadership, ministry, and service. Established in 1995 by William L. Bonner, the College was created to provide biblical higher education rooted in the Apostolic-Pentecostal tradition while equipping students to impact churches, communities, and the world through faith-based leadership.

The vision for the College began decades earlier when Bishop Bonner envisioned an institution dedicated to theological education, ministry preparation, and leadership development.

Through prayer, perseverance, and a passion for Christian education, that vision became a reality when W.L. Bonner College officially opened its doors in September 1995 with an inaugural enrollment of 497 students.

From its earliest days, the College focused on serving both traditional and non-traditional students called to ministry and Christian service. Over the years, W.L. Bonner College has educated and trained thousands of pastors, evangelists, missionaries, teachers, counselors, mentors, and Christian workers through bachelor, associate, certificate, and continuing education programs.

Under the leadership of Bishop Bonner, the College expanded its reach through extension sites across South Carolina, including Charleston, Greenville, Orangeburg, and Sumter, increasing access to higher education for students unable to attend traditional on-campus programs. The institution also strengthened its academic offerings through certificate programs, online education initiatives, and innovative instructional models designed to support working adults and ministry leaders.

The College’s success has been shaped by dedicated faculty, administrators, and spiritual leaders committed to academic excellence and biblical truth. Faculty members bring diverse ministry, educational, and professional experiences from across the United States and internationally, helping students develop spiritually, intellectually, and professionally.

Today, W.L. Bonner College continues to build upon the legacy of its founder by embracing growth, innovation, and institutional effectiveness. The College remains committed to expanding educational opportunities, strengthening technology and student services, enhancing facilities and resources, and preparing future generations for ministry and leadership in a rapidly changing world.

Guided by biblical principles and a mission-centered vision, W.L. Bonner College continues to stand as a beacon of faith, education, and leadership development—empowering students to fulfill their higher calling while preserving the enduring legacy of Bishop William L. Bonner for generations to come.

Who We Are

Our Mission

The mission of W. L. Bonner College is to equip and empower students with Christian values grounded in the Holy Scriptures, preparing them for service to the Church and the broader community. This is accomplished through biblical instruction, ministry and vocational training, and general education within the Apostolic-Pentecostal tradition.

We affirm that effective service begins with a personal relationship with God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, enabling students to reflect His image, love, and compassion in all areas of life.

Our academic programs integrate biblical and theological foundations, general education, and ministry development, intentionally connecting theory with practical application.

The College’s goals, projected outcomes, core values, and educational philosophy are derived from and aligned with this mission, ensuring the fulfillment of its institutional purpose.

Our Statement of Faith

The mission and calling of W. L. Bonner College are rooted in the historical and theological vision of The Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc.. In alignment with this denominational heritage, our theological foundation is firmly grounded in the Holy Bible, the inspired Word of God, which serves as the ultimate authority for faith, doctrine, and Christian living.

As a product of the Apostolic-Pentecostal tradition in America, we affirm the Oneness of God, who has revealed Himself as Father in Creation, Son in Redemption, and Holy Spirit in regeneration and empowerment of believers, while remaining one God.

We believe in the Incarnation and Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ, His death, burial, and bodily resurrection, and His promised Second Coming. We affirm the Pentecostal experience of the infilling of the Holy Spirit, evidenced by speaking in tongues, and recognize the operation of spiritual gifts as outlined in First Epistle to the Corinthians Chapter 12.

We further believe that holy living is a biblical mandate and an essential expression of a transformed life committed to Christ.

Core Values

Bible-Centered Foundation

The Bible is the primary authority guiding curriculum development, including course syllabi and instructional materials. We affirm that truth is absolute and unchanging, and that Scripture is divinely inspired, inerrant, and fully authoritative. Biblical principles are intentionally integrated throughout the curriculum, ensuring students understand the connection between spiritual formation, moral integrity, and academic excellence.

Godly Leadership

Our leadership is guided by the Holy Spirit and committed to advancing the institution’s mission. We prioritize the selection of qualified, mission-aligned personnel. Administrators, faculty, and staff serve as a living curriculum, modeling Christ-centered character and integrating Scripture into every aspect of life and service.

Commitment to Prayer

Prayer is foundational to the life of the institution. It is practiced consistently as a means of seeking God’s wisdom, direction, and presence, and is incorporated into all major gatherings, including worship services, chapel, and commencement exercises.

Strong Relationships and Fellowship

We are committed to fostering meaningful relationships and strengthening families through intentional ministry engagement. Programs such as Pastoral Ministries and Women’s Ministries support spiritual growth, community building, and relational development.

Institutional Effectiveness

We embrace continuous improvement as an ongoing process. Through both qualitative and quantitative assessment methods, the College regularly evaluates its performance to ensure alignment with its mission, goals, and accreditation standards.

Financial Responsibility and Stewardship

We are dedicated to responsible management of all institutional resources. Through servant leadership, we promote accountability, fiscal integrity, and effective stewardship of time, talent, and finances.
